An Nawawi’s 40 Hadith Part 1The collection of Forty Hadith by Imam Nawawi has been known, accepted and appreciated by Muslim scholars for the last seven centuries. Its significance lay in the fact that these selected forty hadiths comprise the main essential and fundamental concepts of Islam which, in turn, construct the minimum level of required revealed knowledge for every single Muslim. Since having good knowledge of the various fundamental aspects of the religion is key to a Muslim’s practice and application of Islam, this course attempts to provide simple and practical commentaries to the collection of Imam Nawawi’s Forty Hadith.Various principles are contained in these hadiths, such as belief, Muslim ethics and fiqh. As such, it is very important to have a good understanding of these hadiths based on scholarly interpretations. In addition, these commentaries also try to offer discussions on related contemporary issues pertaining to certain concepts mentioned in these hadiths. It is FREE! Indeed love for the sake of Allah and hate for the sake of Allah.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) guided us to this balance and moderation in our emotions when he said:
“Verily the strongest handhold of faith is that you love for the sake of Allah and that you hate for the sake of Allah.” [Ahmad 4/286]

Indeed we remain mindful of Allah by being conscious of our obedience to Him and by mentioning and contemplating his beautiful names and sublime attributes. This God-consciousness provides solace in times of sorrow, reassurance in times of fear, strength in times of weakness, sufficiency in times of want. Allah is the source of honor and strength that never wavers and that knows no limit.

Indeed He is. We do not have a well wisher better than Allah. Rely upon Him with sincere faith and He will take care of everything. Certainly He does not abandon His sincere slaves.

Indeed Prayer contains supplicating Allah, asking His Mercy, feeling of being in contact with Him and far from other worldly matters. Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say: “Let us find comfort in it – i.e., in prayer – O Bilaal.”

“Always hate what is wrong, but do not hate the one who errs. Hate sin with all your heart, but forgive and have mercy on the sinner. Criticize speech, but respect the speaker. Our job is to wipe out the disease, not the patient.” - Imam ash Shafi’

Never underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear or a compliment. All have the potential to make someone’s life better.
The Prophet (pbuh) said that smiling is a form of charity.
Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Every act of kindness is charity. Part of kindness is that you offer your brother a cheerful face and you pour some of your bucket into his water vessel.” (Tirmidhī)

Indeed the believer should ponder the meanings, i.e., he should pay attention to reading and think about what it means; he should understand the meanings and thus he will benefit from it. If he does not understand the meaning perfectly, he will still understand many meanings. So let him read carefully and ponder and understand.

Faith is what will bring the Muslim everything he seeks in this world and in the Hereafter. Faith is the key to all goodness and locks the door to all evil.
“Whoever works righteousness — whether male or female — while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)” al-Nahl 16:97

Prayer is an open line to Allah. No network problem, no low battery, no connection error, always good signals, all messages sent and all received.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The closest a person is to His Lord is when he is in prostration (sujood).” [Muslim]

Everyone has a past. Everyone commits sins. The best of sinners are those who repent. Give people a chance.

The Prophet ﷺ said, “ALL of Aadam’s descendants frequently commit errors/sins and the best of frequent sinners are those who frequently repent.” (Sahih at-Tirmithi)

One should note that when the Shaytaan sees a person turning towards his Lord, he tries to stop him. The Shaytaan has sworn to undertake this evil mission, but Allah tells us that he has no power over His sincere slaves. Allah says:
“[Iblees (Satan)] said: ‘O my Lord! Because You misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. ‘Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them.’ (Allah) said: ‘This is the Way which will lead straight to Me.’
‘Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghaawoon (Mushrikoon and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evildoers)’” [al-Hijr 15:39-42]

Sincere repentance is not merely the matter of words spoken on the tongue. Rather, the acceptance of repentance is subject to the condition that the person gives up the sin straight away, that he regrets what has happened in the past, that he resolves not to go back to the thing he has repented from, that he restores people’s rights or property if his sin involved wrongdoing towards others, and that he repents before the agony of death is upon him.

Indeed make it your best companion. Read it daily and implement it in your lives. It is a guidance for those conscious of Allah. Had it been sent down upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah.
Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, “Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.”[Muslim].

Prophet ﷺ declared the Islamic greeting (salam) as one of the best things of Islamic faith.
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin 'Amr: A man asked the Prophet (ﷺ) , “What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know.” [Bukhari]
